Human trafficking case involving MPs: Cops under pressure?

A Delhi court asked the Delhi Police to explain their alleged inaction against BSP MP Mitrasen Yadav, whose name popped up during an investigation into a human trafficking case involving fellow lawmaker Babubhai Katara.

The court order came during the hearing of bail application of a woman accused Kiran Dhar, whose previous such plea was rejected by the court.

The court also came to know that one accused Rajender Kumar Gumpa, private secretary of suspended BJP MP Katara , Kiran Dhar and BSP MP Yadav had purportedly forged a memorandum of association (MoA) of a company in the name of Frigero Conserva Allana Ltd. Gumpa and Dhar have been shown as directors and Mitrasen Yadav as Chairman of the company.

They used the forged company documents to enhance the personal profiles of the likely emigrants so that they might not face hurdles in the issuance of visa to them.

The British High Commission secured a letter written by Yadav, proposing visa for domestic aide Ranjit Singh whose passport number was F 0301050. An evidence of Yadav traveling together with Singh and Gampa in the same flight to the UK has also been traced. The airline records that prove that the three traveled together have matched the documents. While Singh never came back as he was the one to be trafficked to the U.K., his passport was held from Gampa when he was arrested on April 20.

During interrogation, Gampa disclosed about Yadav’s involvement and provided facts such as names of the passengers, date of journey and certain other details that were found to be correct on verification.

During his interrogation though, Yadav has out rightly denied the allegations. However, the delay in police action even in the face of serious evidences has led to suggestions that they may be under pressure to go slow. However, joint commissioner of police (crime) Ranjeet Narayan, said that the investigation being document-based, so they have to seek help from special agencies to verify certain things. Therefore, the documents have been sent to Intelligence Bureau’s GEQD (Government Examiner of Questioned Documents), government’s official handwriting expert, for verification. The results are awaited.
